So here we go then fitting lowering springs to a Probe………

I will start with the front one first, Loosen the wheel nut and jack up the car making sure you put axle stands under just in case!! Remove the nuts and wheel. Locate the two large 17mm bolts at the bottom of the shock absorber… there is also a smaller 11mm bolt that holds the bracket for the sensor wire in place…. This is located between the two 17mm bolt! Undo and remove the 11mm first and pull the wire back out of the way, now the two 17mm bolts can be removed. On the side of the shocker there is a bracket, which hold the brake flexi pipe in place, the flexi pipe is held on the bracket with a clip. With a flat blade screwdriver remove the clip by prying it back.

From inside the engine bay locate the four nuts that retain the shock to the car but before you undo and remove them take a few moments to draw round then with a marker so when you reinstall the shocker on the car it goes back in the exact same place. Its also a good time to loosen the centre nut but don't remove it just yet, that needs to be done off the car!!  Now you can undo and remove the four nuts and withdraw the whole shocker from the car this is usually down and to the left then back up and out.

To install the new springs first you will need to remove the old one's. Using a set of coil spring compressors is the best way to do this, so fit the spring compressors to the spring and find some thing suitable to hold the shocker…. Preferably a vice! Now you will need to remove the nut that hold the top cap in place. This nut can be very tight and not to easy to remove as the top cap will want to turn with the nut, that's why its was loosened on the car. I find it best to hold the square lower section of the top cap in the vice and then remove the nut taking care to note the position of the cap on the shocker. There are several parts to the cap assembly and they must all go back on in the correct order!! Now you can fit the new spring and again you will need to compress the spring to get the top cal assembly back on…. This takes a little patients but it will go back on eventually.

Refit to the car and repeat for the other side, which is exactly the same.

Now for the rear's, which is pretty much the same procedure as the front and the only thing that's different is the brake flexi, which is located on the rear of the shocker and not the side the rest is the same once you have removed all the trim from the boot area! A word of warning … the sensor wire bracket bolt is prone to snapping so go easy! If you do manage to snap one don't panic it can be relocated on the 17mm lower bolt but you have to drill the hole out to the same size as the bolt. The second problem I have come across is the 17mm bolts in the wrong way round, which means the rear calliper must be removed to get the bolt out (bummer) Enjoy your new springs
